Position Description/Responsibilities:
Vice President for Agriculture Operations
Longfellow Ranches consist of approximately 300,000 acres of semiarid rangeland in one large and several smaller units.
The VP would be expected to generate, implement, and report on the agricultural segment of a multi industry Business group owned by the Mitchell Family www.mitchellcg.com
The ability to work with financial and personnel management is primary to actual physical labor in this position. Credibility through prior experience in the industry is necessary to fulfill the primary responsibility of the position. the ability to communicate effectively with both “corporate” and “ranch hand” coworkers in necessary. Spanish is a frequently spoken local language. Weekly operations reports, Monthly financial analysis, Quarterly financial meetings, and Annual Capital Budget (along with project specific budgets) are necessary to coordinate with the other affiliated energy and defense training entities concurrently utilizing the surface and subsurface lands. Budget support is significantly supported by the affiliated entities.
Longfellow Ranches longfellowranch.com currently runs a grass fed cow calf operation which is significantly below the preferred and contemplated carrying capacity of the rangelands. Commercial and affiliate hunting programs for Mule and white tail deer, Elk, Audad, and game birds are conducted on MLP programs on all but a recently nonregistered tract. The Company has recently acquired land suitable for conversion to irrigation to provide more reliable finishing for cattle. the ranch group also provides agricultural support for affiliate lands owned by the Group in the San Angelo and Oklahoma areas. Current anticipated changes to operations are an increase in the rotational grazing cattle herd, development of the irrigated cattle finishing operation, and automation of certain critical remote water source and storage sites.
The residence for VP Agriculture is either on the Ranch approximately 45 minutes south of Ft. Stockton, Texas, in Ft. Stockton (with several weekly supervision trips), or at our San Angelo office (with several weekly supervision trips approx. 3-3.5 hour each way). Multiple trips annually to our Dallas headquarters would be necessary.
The Mitchell Group is a multi-industry group employing hundreds both in the US and abroad. Salary, benefits, and profit sharing are commensurate with that structure and generally better than Non-diversified agriculture operations. Initial compensation is dependent on the applicant’s experience.
