Tyler Gardner

King Ranch InstituteGeneral

Tyler Gardner was raised on a family farm in Star Valley, Wyoming, were he learned the value of hard work and seeing a job through to the end. He quickly learned that horses and beef cows were more up his alley than farming and milk cows. He started day working for neighbors and riding colts. He learned many valuable lessons about different ranching systems, cattle health and animal handling along with Range Management on both public and private lands.

After graduation Tyler served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ohio were he learned a lot about serving others. He also had several opportunities to lead and train other missionaries, which gave him valuable experience in people management.

Upon returning from his mission Tyler met and married his wife Katie and went to the University of Wyoming were he received his bachelors degree in 2014 in Animal Science with an emphasis in Range Management.

In 2012 Tyler did an internship with the Rex Ranch in the Nebraska sandhills. This was a great experience for him and his family. The internship led to full time employment upon graduating in 2014. Working on the Rex Ranch has exposed Tyler to caring for and managing multiple classes of cattle from yearling heifers, mature spring calving cows, mature fall calving cows, weaned calves, first calf heifers and bulls. He was responsible for monitoring their health, body condition, and nutritional needs along with the health of the range in the ranch’s high stocking rate low duration grazing system. Putting together yearly grazing plans for each herd is key to both animal and range health. He also worked with the other members of his crew to put together a yearly budget for their unit.

Tyler loves the ranching lifestyle and the values that it instills into his and Katie’s kids: Briggs (6), Addley (4) and Tinley (1).
