Bob is semi-retired and works as Senior Consultant with Dairy Strategies, LLC – a business, leadership and human resource consulting business focused on the dairy industry.  Bob is also Professor Emeritus in the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University.  At Cornell he was an award-winning instructor in the 6th ranked undergraduate business program (2021 US News & World Report ranking).  Bob is best known in extension for developing and leading the PRO-DAIRY Program – a program that develops and teaches leadership and management principles and concepts.  Bob’s vision is to provide insight to managers by presenting complex human resource and business concepts in formats that are understandable and useable.

Bob is a pioneer in creating blended learning experiences (face to face, virtual, hybrid, individual coaching) that maximize learner implementation.  Bob currently a) teaches and coaches leaders and managers of 10-12 farms and agribusinesses, b) speaks and teaches at executive education programs and conferences including King Ranch Institute and Cornell Dairy Executives, c) collaborates on Dairy Strategy projects, and d) continues his own professional development.  Dr. Milligan has received numerous teaching and extension awards including being named a J. Thomas Clark Professor of Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise and the National Association of Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture Teaching Award of Merit.

Bob lives in Lauderdale, Minnesota (Twin Cities) with his wife, Dr. Sharon Danes, who is retired from the Family Social Science Department at the University of Minnesota.  She continues to work with graduate students, mentoring young faculty, and is just finishing co-authoring a book. Bob has two adult sons who live in New York, City and Chicago.

Bob is also president of the Rosehill Townhome Association Board of Directors, volunteers at both visitors’ centers for the Mississippi National Park and Recreation area, is a member of the Board of Directors of Minnesota Agricultural and Rural Leadership (MARL) Program, and is a member and former chair of a St. Paul Schools CTE advisory committee. Bob and Sharon enjoy University of Minnesota sports, theater, travel with Road Scholar Travel, playing bocce at Central Park in Roseville, and playing cards.
