Position Title: Operations Manager

Name of Ranch/Business: Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Animal Science Department

Location: McGregor, Texas

Position Description: The Operations Manager, under direction, oversees business operations for assigned departments, offices, divisions, or agencies, which include hiring employees, negotiating contracts, addressing budget matters, understanding general business operations, and guiding work teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Five years of related experience in management of land resources or cattle operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or equivalent combination of training and experience in management of land resources or cattle operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Under direction of the Animal Science (ANSC) Department Head, provide operations and management leadership of the McGregor Research Center (MCGR).
  • Ensure cohesion of ANSC operations through interaction and communication with department committees, faculty, and staff, including the ANSC Operations Advisory Board, ANSC Livestock Operations Manager, and subsequent personnel, as well as the Rosenthal Meat Science and Technology Center.
  • Work cooperatively with the ANSC Department Head on strategic direction of department livestock operations.
  • Interact with individuals or groups outside of the department, including but not limited to industry representatives, Extension events and/or county meetings, or tours, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain overarching management structure for McGregor Research Center, including budgets, personnel and capital.
  • Coordinate infrastructure maintenance and renovations for MCGR.
  • Ensure research compliance as related to Agricultural Animal Care and Use Committee (AACUC) and Animal Use Protocol (AUP) guidelines, and address safety matters as required.
  • Prepare and process various operational documents (i.e., financial statements, inventories, personnel listings, rate sheets etc.).
  • Establish and ensure communication and enforcement of rules/regulations for supervised staff members and student employees.
  • Conduct performance appraisals. Assign tasks or responsibilities to others and monitor work performance.
  • Act as a liaison with human resources to respond to employee queries.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and to work effectively on teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of land or cattle operations management
  • Experience working with livestock research facilities
  • Experience interacting with faculty on research –related projects
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.

Estimated Salary: Commensurate
