Position Title: Cattle Operations Assistant
Name of Ranch/Business: BRC Ranch
Location: Boling, Texas and Sicily Island, Louisiana
Position Description:The cattle operations assistant will play a hands-on role in supporting the daily operations of BRC Ranch. This individual will assist with cattle care, ranch facility maintenance, fencing, hay production, hauling, and general livestock management. The goal of this role is to provide consistent, reliable labor for the day-to-day needs of the ranch, ensuring that leadership and genetics staff can focus on customer service, sales, and high-level program development.
Qualifications:
- Prior ranch and cattle experience.
- Ability to safely operate trucks, trailers, tractors, and ranch equipment.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to take direction.
- Physically able to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors, and handle cattle.
- Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge of the cattle business including calving out cows, taking birth weights, weighing and measuring cattle
- Clean cut, well mannered, professionally dressed when representing the ranch.
Responsibilities:
- Feed, water, and monitor the health and wellbeing of cattle.
- Assist with calving, branding, dehorning, and routine herd work.
- Handle cattle in a low-stress manner, including moving, sorting, and penning.
- Collect DNA tissue and blood samples on cattle
- Weigh and measure cattle
- Safely haul cattle to veterinary facilities, show barns, and partner facilities (e.g., TransOva).
- Assist with animal pickups/deliveries following sales or customer arrangements.
- Maintain cleanliness of barns, pens, and working facilities.
- Operate and maintain ranch equipment such as tractors, trailers, and loaders.
- Perform basic repairs and upkeep to ensure safe, functional facilities.
- Assist with cattle preparation for sales, shows, and ranch tours.
- Help load/unload cattle, set up facilities, and provide logistical support during major events.
Estimated Salary & Benefits: $48,000 base pay plus bonus opportunities, paid vacation, insurance stipend and more.
