Position Description:

Wilson Cattle Co has an excellent opportunity for a Vice President and General Manager of Ranching Operations. Wilson Cattle CO is a 6th generation cattle ranching operation founded in the 1880’s. It’s home base is in North Powder, OR, where it runs 15,000 spring and summer yearlings and 1,800 mother cows.

The Vice President will have independent operational control and will work closely with the Executive Team to ensure effective execution of strategy. The ideal candidate will have strong organization/time management, communication, delegation, and leadership skills with a proven track record in the industry.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities and scope:

  • Work with Wilson Cattle and Beef Northwest Senior Management Team to build a long-term
    strategic plan, then lead implementation and execution.
  • Lead team in improving the current model to oversee all phases of ranching activities including
    task delegation, pasture management, forage production, animal wellbeing, animal health and
    processing, budgeting, facility, and equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Ability to lead operational execution with:
    • Farming Division to irrigate ranches in timely and efficient fashion.
    • Cattle Division to ensure timely pasture rotations, shipping and receiving efficiencies, and cattle health.
    • Controller to construct an annual budget for various enterprises and lead regular budget review meetings.
    • Consulting veterinarian, nutritionist, and other business partners to maximize cattle health, performance, and profitability.
    • HR Director to create protocols to ensure safety and security of all team members, equipment, forage, feed, and animal inventories.
    • HR Director in oversight of all personnel matters including proper staffing, hiring, compensation, employee performance and people development.
  • Oversee Natural Cattle programs, ensure all standards and audit certifications are being met.
  • Assist CEO with Capital projects, new ranching opportunities, leases, and partnerships.
  • Assist CEO with oversight of private party leases.
  • Work hours may vary with possible evening, weekend, or holiday work required depending on the season and associated work duties.

Qualifications:

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead as a member of a high functioning team and develop effective working relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds. A minimum of five years’ management experience working in a livestock ranch environment.
  • Must be proficient using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word,). Comfort and desire to learn new technologies.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to perform or oversee any ranch activity.
  • Strong desire to be part of a dynamic, entrepreneurial work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to use multiple communication platforms, text, email, etc.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with financial modeling.
  • Have knowledge and experience with low stress cattle handling experience.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Estimated Salary & Benefits: The Vice President of Ranching Operations position is a full-time, year-round, exempt position. Starting salary is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include Family Health Insurance, Dental, Vision, (90% cost paid- Low deductible) 401k match and paid time off, and opportunity for equity stake in cowherd.
