Position Description: Astra Ranch, a family-owned and recreationally driven 500-acre ranch nestled in the scenic area of Waxahachie, Texas, is currently searching for a highly qualified and experienced Ranch Manager to oversee the operations. This job encompasses not only traditional farming and livestock management but also overseeing all homes on property, exotic game animals, barns, equipment, employees, and family activities. Qualifications:
Education: A degree in agriculture, animal science, range management, or a related field is often preferred. However, equivalent practical experience may also be considered.Experience: Several years of experience in game and recreational ranch management or a related field is typically required. This includes experience in livestock management, pasture management, equipment operation, house management, knowledge with exotic game animals, and general ranch operations.Knowledge: A solid understanding of agricultural practices, animal husbandry, livestock nutrition, and range management is important. Knowledge of sustainable farming and ranching practices is also beneficial.Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating and maintaining ranch equipment, including tractors, implements, and irrigation systems, is necessary. Basic knowledge of machinery repairs and maintenance is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day ranch operations, including livestock management, agricultural tasks, pasture rotation, breeding programs, and animal health management. Ensure compliance with regulations, such as animal welfare standards and environmental guidelines.Staff Supervision: Supervise ranch employees, including hiring, training, and performance management. Coordinate and delegate tasks to ensure efficient operation and maintain a positive work environment.Financial Management: Develop and manage the ranch budget, including expenses, income, and capital investments. Make informed decisions to optimize profitability while maintaining sustainable practices.Infrastructure Maintenance: Ensure that ranch buildings (such as homes, horse arena, office, etc.), fences, roads, and equipment are well-maintained and in good working condition. Arrange for repairs, upgrades, or replacements as needed.
