Position Title: Ranch Manager

Description of Operation: Pawnee Springs is a newly acquired large cattle ranch located in the Sandhills of Nebraska, widely considered some of the best cattle country in the United States (https://nebraskaexaminer.com/2026/01/20/nebraska-sandhills-ranch-draws-record-sale-price-shifts-to-texas-insurance-couple/). The owners are looking to create a world class cattle operation that operates profitably and will be the founding ranch of a larger operation as new ranches are added to the portfolio.
Position Description: Pawnee Springs Ranch affords a unique opportunity for a manager to operate and scale a large, institutional quality cattle ranch in the Nebraska Sandhills. The manager will initially lead a team of 3-4 ranch hands to create a top decile cow/calf cattle operation. Pawnee Springs is a ~40,000-acre ranch located about 10 minutes east of North Platte, Nebraska, and has nine agricultural pivots in addition to its livestock infrastructure. The Ranch currently runs ~1,000 bred cows and heifers and is looking to expand its herd over time. The Ranch Manager’s principal responsibility will be to manage ranch operations to drive profitability. The Manager will be responsible for ranch strategy, budgeting, cattle health, nutrition, genetics, agriculture management, KPI reporting, record keeping, maintenance, and employee management. We are looking for a strategic thinker with hands-on livestock experience who is comfortable with technology, has financial discipline, and is a long-term strategic thinker. We expect to expand our ranch holdings, and there will be upward mobility for the right person to become responsible for an increasingly larger ranch portfolio over time.
Qualifications:
- Must have 5+ years’ experience as a Ranch Manager in a large-scale cattle or grazing operation
- Understanding of the Nebraska Sandhills and agriculture is preferred
- Competence with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks
- Strong understanding of cattle genetics
Key Responsibilities:
Livestock and Grazing Operations
- Manage cow-calf and backgrounding operations
- Oversee breeding, calving, nutrition, and weaning strategies
- Design and execute rotational grazing and pasture utilization plans
- Coordinate veterinary, nutrition, and genetic programs
- Use technology to track and improve herd performance
Land, Water and Infrastructure Management
- Manage fencing, wells, windmills, solar panels, pivots, and roads
- Oversee hay and feed production
- Maintain and improve soil health and rangeland conditions
- Maintain storage facilities, workshop, calving sheds, and other structures
- Manage tenants that lease pivots and oversee operation of pivots under ranch control
Financial Management and Reporting
- Create and manage an annual operating budget and capital expenditures
- Track monthly financials and unit economics
- Work directly with ownership on forecasting, capex prioritization, and profits
- Manage vendors and tenants
Technology
- Implement and maintain ranch management software (accounting, livestock, grazing)
- Continuously evaluate emerging ag-tech solutions
Human Capital
- Manage 3-4 direct reports with possible seasonal and contract workers
- Hire, train, and manage ranch staff and seasonal labor
Estimated Salary & Benefits:
- Estimated salary: $115,000+
