Position Title: Ranch Manager

Position Description:
This is a “hands on” ranch management position. Although it is not an “absentee owner” position, it is one that affords complete responsibility and minimal oversite on a daily basis. We have 20000 deeded acres and a number of BLM and Forest Service allotments. We have 1100-1200 mother cows and keep the calves over to yearlings.
We put up around 3000 ton of hay per summer and rarely need to buy extra feed. We manage 175cfs of water each summer both through center pivot sprinklers and with flood irrigation. The management job covers all aspects of taking care of the ranch except the wildlife and hunting. The ranch is leased to an independent outfitter. The ranch is quite remote and requires a family that is able to live and be happy in a remote location. The ranch is in the central mountains of Colorado. On-site housing is provided for all employees. Applicant should a self-starter that can work independently or with a crew. There are a number of videos and photos online as the ranch was for sale a while ago. It is no longer on the market.
Qualifications:
- 5 plus years experience managing ranch/farm
- Proven experience in cattle husbandry
- Working knowledge of range management principles
- Strong leadership and decision making skills
- Excellent communications, interpersonal ad organizational skills
- Experience and knowledge of water management-including flood irrigation and center pivot sprinklers
- Experience and knowledge of maintenance and repair of farming equipment and ranch vehicles
- Experience in raising and harvesting hay.
- Experience in running farm equipment and some heavy equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and organize all facets of the operation of the ranch.
- Hire general ranch labor when needed.
- Keep owner apprised of work and other activities on the ranch.
- Keep equipment and vehicles in good working order
- Keep facilities in good repair.
- Keep complete and accurate records
Estimated Salary: $60- $75000. according to experience. Housing and utilities included, Stipend for health care
