Location: Bastrop, Texas

Position Description: Searching for a Ranch Manager with a strong cow/calf and stocker cattle background for a ranch operation based in Bastrop, TX. Hands-on position as working manager of the ranch, livestock, and property. Looking for someone preferably from the area that has managed a cow/calf and stocker cattle operation in the past. Candidate needs to take pride in their work and will be expected to develop a high level of responsibility in the overall management of the ranch and property. Looking for a person that not only has integrity, but also experience, strong skill set, good communication skills, self starter, stability, high level of independence, problem solving skills, passion for agriculture and ranching. Qualifications:

  • College Degree is a plus, but not required.
  • Strong cow/calf and stocker cattle background.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, driving record check drug testing.
  • Class A CDL a plus or be willing to acquire.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours as needed.
  • Self-starting, goal-oriented person.
  • Must be trustworthy, honorable and reliable.
  • Strong communications and organizational skills, record keeping, and overall dependability.
  • Must be neat, organized and take good care of equipment, facilities and livestock.
  • Point person for any issues that occur throughout the cattle and ranch operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform as lead person for cow/calf and stocker cattle operation.
  • Identify sick cattle, vaccinate and have basic veterinary knowledge/skills.
  • Ability to ride horses a plus, but not required.
  • Will either ride through on horseback or atv through assigned pens daily and identify sick cattle.
  • Evaluate the market to determine cattle prices when buying.
  • Manage and schedule shipment of cattle.
  • Identify possible problem pens including concerns about feed, conditions of cattle received, etc.
  • Experience starting high-risk cattle.
  • Good animal husbandry skills.
  • Experience with hay production equipment.
  • Experience operating equipment such as tractors, trucks, maintainer, skid steer, bulldozer, etc. with routine equipment repairs and maintenance skills.
  • Ability to transport equipment for repairs if needed.
  • Manage ranch, including upkeep of barns, cattle pens, fences, water tanks, feed troughs, etc. and able to assist in all areas of the operation when needed.
  • Good hay and forage production background.
  • Evaluate and inspect fields to determine condition and need for cultivating, spraying or weeding. Duties may include planting, mowing and spraying.
  • Comply with all applicable safety rules and policies.

Estimated Salary: Based on experience.
