Position Title: Ranch Manager

Name of Ranch/Business: Kohani Creek Ranch

Location: Goliad, TX

Position Description: 

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Ranch Manager to oversee and manage the family’s 2,800-acre property. The property was historically used as a cattle ranch, but is being converted into a recreational ranch focused on native habitat restoration and African exotics. The position consists primarily of but not limited to: day-to-day property management of identifying and prioritizing necessary activities related to the African super exotics, upkeep of the building improvements that are located on the property, helping to develop and implement the prescribed burn and brush control plans, and assisting with hospitality of occasional groups of guests. The manager will work closely with ownership of the ranch and will supervise 1-2 additional ranch workers onsite. Candidate must be self-motivated and willing to go above and beyond for the betterment of the ranch.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with African Super Exotics and whitetail deer
  • Must be knowledgeable in pasture management, weed control, and grazing
  • Knowledge of and experience with prescribed burn plans is preferred
  • Be able to manage spreadsheets and electronic records of animal and other inventory and operations in a way that can be updated to ownership on a weekly basis
  • Basic mechanic, welding, and plumbing abilities are preferred.
  • Great communication skills and morals.
  • Familiarity with USDA programs administered by the NRCS is preferred
  • Ability to operate basic farm and ranch equipment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate and maintain tractors, shedder, disc, and other implements
  • Availability to work established work schedule – Monday to Friday approx. 40 hours/week
  • Open to work weekends upon occasional request to assist
  • Ability to supervise 1-2 ranch workers and proactively determine what work needs to be done – and prioritize and communicate the plan to ranch owner

Key Responsibilities:

Livestock

  • Monitor exotics herd by performing daily inspections of the livestock, food, and water sources
  • Identify and determine proper treatment for sick livestock – internally (on ranch) or externally (veterinarian)
  • Operate basic ranch equipment such as: tractors, ATVs, and utility vehicles for tasks such as hauling feed and moving equipment.
  • Manage supplemental feed and hay feeding, application of minerals and track inventory.

Infrastructure

  • Oversee maintenance of ranch infrastructure such as fences, roads, corrals, water systems, housing, deer blinds, and buildings, including construction, repair, and maintenance
  • Maintain and operate ranch equipment: vehicles, tractors, implements, ATVs, and feeders
  • Participate in ranch’s brush control activities including shredding, spraying, burning, etc.
  • Landscape and exterior beautification of ranch house area – irrigation system, tree & lawn maintenance, etc.
  • Proper care and maintenance of buildings
  • Electricity, propane, water usage
  • Septic system
  • Properly functioning appliances
  • Overseeing pool maintenance
  • Oversight of regularly scheduled in-home cleaning service
  • Assist with any and other ranch activities as assigned by ranch owner to aid in the development and process of exotics ranching and wildlife operations

Estimated Salary: Commensurate with experience plus other benefits including medical insurance, and vehicle use while on ranch.
