Position Title: Ranch Manager

Location: Lavaca County, Texas

Position Description:

The family has recently acquired a family-owned ranch comprised of ~1,600 acres in Lavaca County, Texas. The ranch will initially focus on hunting (deer, dove and duck) and livestock (cattle), and potentially equine at a later date. In addition to overseeing the recreational hunting and for-profit livestock efforts, the candidate would also be in charge of overseeing various improvements on the property such as roads, blinds/fences, and the construction of numerous structures (shooting range, carport, tanks, manufactured home pads, barn, etc.). The family is
seeking a highly motivated full-time manager that can meet the below qualifications and requirements.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience leading all business and operational aspects of a cattle operation
  • Work directly with owner on major management decisions
  • Knowledge and experience of white-tail deer management and hunting
  • Knowledge and experience with waterfowl and dove management and hunting
  • Knowledge and experience with the operation and maintenance of ranch equipment and vehicles
  • Local relationships (in Hallettsville, Yoakum, Shiner, Victoria, Morales, etc.) is a plus
  • Physically capable of meeting all ranch work needs
  • Bachelor degree in a related field or extensive field experience
  • Strong written communication skills (text, email)
  • Good attitude and work ethic · Basic computer Skills (Microsoft excel, word, email, etc.)
  • Resume and numerous references
  • Valid driver license
  • United States citizen 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage every aspect of the property from a profit driven perspective. This includes wildlife, livestock, heavy equipment, construction and maintenance.
  • Start and manage a profitable cattle operation
  • Manage all aspects of deer hunting: Survey and judge deer; maintain all kill records; complete all reporting to State; keep all feeders full; keep all blinds in good condition; perform occasional guided hunts; perform/coordinate game cleaning and processing
  • Manage all aspects of dove and duck hunting: Manage the construction and ongoing maintenance of all habitat enhancement; maintain all duck blinds; scout birds during the week; perform some guided hunts and perform/coordinate game cleaning and processing
  • Manage all aspects of predator control
  • Manage vendors, temporary labor and other personnel as needed
  • Keep all equipment and grounds well maintained
  • Monitor construction of various property improvements
  • Keep in touch with neighbors, local community, and law enforcement officials
  • Generate monthly financial/operational reports
  • Yearly vendor/employee and operation review
