Position Title: Ranch Manager

Position Description:
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Agricultural Ranch Manager to professionally care for and manage an approximately 5,000+-acre property, of which has been owned by the same family for 100 plus years. The position consists primarily of but not limited to; day to day on property management of essential cattle operation duties, care of horses, and upkeep of building improvements that are located on the property. The manager will work closely with ownership of the ranch and will be in consistent and frequent contact. Candidate must be self-motivated and willing to go above and beyond the scope of work for the betterment of the ranch. Most importantly the candidate must be receptive to direction of ownership while possessing the utmost of accountability traits.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of ranching and cattle / horse handling experience.
- Must be knowledgeable in cattle management including herd health, processing, and nutrition.
- Must be knowledgeable in pasture management, weed control, and grazing.
- Be able to manage records of animal inventory and operations in a way that can be updated to ownership on a weekly basis whether that be through a computer-based system or other avenue that makes sense.
- Basic welding, mechanic, and plumbing abilities are preferred.
- Great communication skills and morals.
- Familiarity with USDA programs administered by the FSA and NRCS.
- Ability to ride horseback.
- Ability to operate basic farm and ranch equipment.
- Physical ability to lift 50-pound sack of feed.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Bending, stooping and walking long distances if the situation requires it.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
** Cattle Operations: **
- Check cattle regularly (daily) during the year to maintain proper inventory count and quickly identify if cattle are missing.
- Operate basic ranch equipment such as: tractors, ATVs, and utility vehicles for tasks such as hauling feed and moving equipment.
- Manage supplemental feed and hay feeding, application of minerals and track inventory.
- Organize cattle processing activities in spring and fall to work/vaccinate calves.
- Provide basic animal health treatments to prevent death loss or poor livestock health.
- Assist in shipping of calves.
- Plan and manage pasture rotations of cattle through pastures.
- Record and monitor health records on cattle, cattle movements, inventory information, etc.
- Lead the management and marketing of cattle.
- Lead the irrigation and hay production and sales at the ranch.
** Maintenance of Property: **
- Inspect/maintain fences on all the 5,000 acres, livestock watering facilities, pens, barns and other buildings.
- Perform routine maintenance of ranch vehicles and ranch related equipment.
- Assist in brush management.
- Mowing Fire Lines.
- Maintain and fix if needed arterial roads of ranch.
- Weed control along all main arterial roads of 10,000 acres, around barns, home, ranch equipment, and interior home fencing.
- Landscape and exterior beautification of ranch house area

- Tree care
- Lawn care
- Outdoor patio / grill area
- Proper care and maintenance of buildings
- Electricity, propane, water usage
- Septic system
- Properly functioning appliances
- Oversight of regularly scheduled in-home cleaning service
** Security of Ranch: **
- It is expected that the candidate for this position considers the security of the ranch and its assets as if it is their own personal home and property. Responsibly taking any precautions necessary to do so and to treat it as such.
** Other Duties: **
- Develop relationships with neighboring landowners, area ranchers, local vendors and veterinarians on behalf of the ranch.
- Positively represent the ranch and its owners in the local community.
- Continuing education and staying up to date on current market trends, cattle and ranch production, grazing and water conservation.
- Interview and assist in selection of summer intern.
