Position Description:

Seeking a well-rounded Ranch Foreman that enjoys working on new and old buildings and equipment as well as managing a small herd of cattle. This is a unique opportunity to work and live on a medium size ranch in Nye, MT. The Shemer Ranch is a well-developed property that grazes cattle, raises hay, has limited management/harvesting operation, and provides recreation opportunities year-round.

Qualifications:

The Ranch Foreman directs all maintenance and repair of new and old buildings, houses, vehicles, and ranch equipment. The foreman works with farming, livestock, and recreation and will carry out the direction and duties outlined by the ownership team and its key advisors. This position requires project management, scheduling, flexibility, and accountability skills. The Shemer Ranch requires high standards of integrity, safety, teamwork, and flexibility.

The foreman position is physical and will require someone who is mechanically capable. The primary role of the foreman dealing with livestock will be organizing and carrying out the cattle health and wellness program developed and winter calving. The foreman position can grow and evolve with the company to take on more responsibilities over time and includes the opportunity to profit share a portion of the cattle heard inside of the Shemer Cattle Company operation as a bonus to his/her base salary.

Educational / Experience Requirements:
• 5+ years of cattle ranching experience
• 5+ years of maintenance/mechanical experience
• Knowledge general contracting and trades
• Ability to run heavy equipment
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements:
• This position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 55 pounds.

Wages and Benefits:
• Housing will be provided on the ranch with one homestead. The household bills are covered by the foreman.
• The use of two vehicles for ranch duties is available but the ranch foreman is expected to have his own vehicle for personal travel and other outside duties.
• Health insurance is provided but dental and vision is not included.
• Negotiated annual wages and a profit share of the cattle crop to be determined in the final agreement.
• 30 Days paid vacation each year in the month of June.

Responsibilities: 

• Oversee, direct, and communicate with ranch management and staff regarding the maintenance and operation of all ranch buildings, vehicles, and equipment
• Work to develop and maintain a cattle health and wellness program adhering to the newest and developing standards in conjunction with two Universities.
• Maintain records in accordance with the financial guidelines developed by the family CFO.
• Work directly with farming, livestock, and recreation teams to conduct branding, health and wellness and calving operations.
• Maintain a standard of bearing commensurate with the Shemer Ranch standards and policies.
• The ranch foreman requires availability outside of normal working hours as needs and/or emergencies arise
• Calving operation and winter feed scheduling.

Estimated Salary: $45,000
