Position Title: Ranch Foreman/Manager

Name of Ranch/Business: Windy Bar Ranch

Location: Stonewall, TX

Position Description: 

Windy Bar Ranch is a 150-cow, pasture to plate beef operation that is headquartered in Stonewall, Texas. We produce 100% black Angus cattle. We also sell registered bulls and females.

Qualifications: 

  • College degree in agriculture preferred but not required.
  • Experience with cattle and ranch equipment preferred.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

This position will involve you in every aspect of a cutting-edge, pasture-to-plate beef operation. The ranch manager position would involve the following tasks:

  • Manage and process beef sales, pickups and shipments.
  • Schedule and coordinate beef pickups by consumers at the ranch.
  • Manage beef inventory of walk-in freezer, storage facility and beef processors.
  • Prepare budget and business plan for any proposed “value-added” additions to Windy Bar Ranch.
  • Assist in advertising and promotion of Windy Bar Ranch locally-raised beef.
  • Assist in marketing plans for consumer beef sales.
  • Assist in marketing plans for registered cattle and semen sales.
  • Mix feed for all cattle on feed.
  • Locate and schedule delivery of feed products (hay, corn, corn gluten, etc.) for ranch.
  • Maintain and service equipment such as ranch truck, tractors, feed mixers, Kawasaki Mule, 4-wheelers, roll-out irrigation unit, etc.
  • Manage irrigation of paddocks with roll-out irrigation unit.
  • Assist in preparing fields and planting annual winter cover crops.
  • Assist with haying operations.
  • Assist in planning and executing rotational grazing system for all cattle.
  • Assist in maintenance and repair of electric and barb wire fences.
  • Assist in checking cattle and ensuring availability of water, salt and supplemental protein.
  • Assist in weighing and tagging calves at birth.
  • Assist in weaning calves.
  • Assist in weighing and working cattle, including tattoos, freeze branding and vaccinations.
  • Maintain current inventory records of all classes of cattle at all locations.
  • Assist in hauling cattle to processor, auction or purchaser.
  • Assist with synchronizing cattle for AI and embryo transfer.
  • Assist with AI of cattle.
  • Assist in marketing of registered bulls and females.
  • Interview and assist in selection of summer intern.

Estimated Salary & Benefits: Negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience.

There is a place in time where a man has to make a business decision and pass the baton to the next person and keep a focus on their own projects.
