Position Title: Livestock Specialist

Name of Ranch/Business: Silvies Valley Ranch

Location: Seneca, Oregon

Position Description: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Agricultural Ranch Specialist to join our team at Silvies Valley Ranch. As a leader on our team, you will be responsible for various tasks related to the daily operations of our ranch, including but not limited to planning, budgeting, scheduling, and management.

At least 4 years of experience in Ranch Management to be consider for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

Livestock Management: Lead the planning, care, management and marketing of cattle, goats including feeding, watering, herding, branding, and vaccination. Monitor cattle health and promptly address any issues. Lead the irrigation & hay production & sales at the ranch.

Equipment Operation: Operate basic ranch equipment such as tractors, ATVs, and utility vehicles for tasks such as hauling feed and moving equipment.

Equipment Upkeep: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on ranch equipment to ensure proper functioning and longevity. Keep equipment clean, lubricated, and stored properly.

Fencing: Construct, repair, and maintain fences to ensure the safety and security of livestock and property boundaries.

Riding & Roping: Proficiently ride horses for various tasks such as herding cattle, checking fences, and patrolling the property. Skill in roping techniques and other ranch-related activities.

Pasture management, hay production, and sales.

Other Duties: Assist with additional tasks and projects as assigned by ranch management.

Qualifications:

Experience: Previous experience working on a cow/calf ranch with a farm, with demonstrated proficiency in fencing, livestock handling and care (horses, cattle, goats), and equipment operation.

Knowledge: Strong understanding of cattle management practices, including health care, nutrition, and behavior. Strong knowledge of pasture and ranch production. At least 4 years experience in Ranch Management.

Skills: Excellent horse riding and handling skills, with the ability to handle livestock confidently and safely. Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance, diagnosis and repair.

Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions, including lifting 100 pound calves, bending, stooping, and walking long distances.

Communication: Great communication skills to work collaboratively with ranch staff, and ranch ownership.

Education: Degree from reputable 4-year institute or equivalent.
