Jared Wareham, from Deepwater, Missouri, lives where his roots began, but has followed a non-traditional path into the industry. Due to his father’s employment with Conoco, Jared lived in many areas of the country throughout his youth. However, he was always happiest when checking cattle and riding horses during visits back home in Missouri. Embracing his passion for beef production, Jared would receive a post-secondary degree in Animal Science and spend the next few years completing his Master’s while teaching courses in biological sciences.
In addition to teaching, Jared would begin building a footprint in the commercial seedstock industry where he would go on to be involved with seedstock production, management, and marketing for the next 15 years. In that time, he developed two different companies into highly effective sales teams, selling nearly 3000 bulls and servicing customers in the Midwest and eastern fescue regions.
He has recently transitioned to General Manager of Top Dollar Angus, the industry’s first, third-party verification company utilizing genomics to identify top-end Angus and Red Angus influenced feeder cattle. He is excited about the opportunity to be a part of the changing tide that genomics is bringing to the industry, as well as, service an extensive network of customers that range from cow-calf producers to cattle feeders and beyond. His primary duties will be evaluation of feeder cattle through genomic tools to asses value and offer service, support, and consulatation with regards to marketing and/or procurement.
Jared also enjoys writing opinion or thought provoking pieces about the beef industry, a passion he discovered through his experiences in education. He has written for Farm Journal Media the last 5 years with his “New Generation” column appearing in Drovers magazine. He also sits on the Board of Directors for FCS Financial, the Farm Credit lending entity in Missouri. Jared strongly supports the Farm Credit system and its ability to keep agriculturalists funded and feeding the world.
He is a self-proclaimed “ranch geek” that loves to learn the nuances of beef production systems coast to coast, as well as, snap the occasional picture. Jared and his wife, Jill, have been married for 16 years and have three uniquely, wonderful daughters. They enjoy doing things together as a family such as camping, hiking, traveling, fishing, and managing their cowherd.
