Position Title: General Manager

Location: One hour from Billings, MT
Position Description:
The family-owned S Ranch consists of three major enterprises including a cow-calf operation that runs on 200,000 leased and deeded acres 50 miles south of Billings between the Big Horn and Pryor Mountains, a large feedlot in Custer, and a retail beef store/custom-cut USDA Inspected slaughter house in Hardin. The S Ranch is a profitable, business minded enterprise that is also proud of maintaining its ranching and cowboy heritage. This position is new; the occupant will report to the CEO/General Manager.
The successful candidate will be responsible for helping prepare and present budgets and financial projections to the CEO and the board. The candidate must have a sound understanding of managerial accounting along with understanding and following cattle market trends, feed costs and inputs, and be a natural resource steward who enjoys and is able to participate in both the physical and managerial aspects of ranching. The manager will work with the CEO on commercial cow/calf, backgrounding and day-to-day feedlot management. Given S Ranch’s diversified enterprises, appreciation of beef production as a system from conception to consumer is a plus. Successful candidate will have housing near a nice agricultural community within 15 minutes of Custer school and around an hour from Billings, Montana’s largest city.
Responsibilities:
This position will include but is not limited to:
- Work under the direction of the C.O.O. regarding ranch enterprises that span from cow/calf to finishing cattle for harvest.
- Oversee everyday feedlot (and some ranch) operations which includes livestock feeding, feed purchases and storage, animal health and financial management and reporting.
- Organize and coordinate employee schedules.
- Construction, maintenance and repair of ranch infrastructure (ex. fences, water, roads, working facilities).
Qualifications:
- Honesty, integrity and treat fellow employees and customers with respect.
- Strong financial skills and track record of being able to accurately assess costs, inputs and sales data.
- Valid driver’s license and citizen of the United States.
- Ability to determine unit cost of production, develop annual enterprise budgets, project revenues.
- Effective people manager who enjoys working as a team.
- Experience in effective stockmanship, animal health and cattle management.
- Infrastructure maintenance and repair skills.
Estimated Salary & Benefits: Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. Employer provides housing, utilities, and a work pickup.
