Position Title: Cattle Area Manager – Commercial Cattle
Name of Ranch/Business: Deseret Ranches – Deseret Cattle and Citrus
Location: St. Cloud, FL
Position Description: The Commercial Cattle Area Manager is responsible for supervising, supporting, and training assigned Cattle Foremen and Cowboys to accomplish Ranch and Unit goals including managing budgets and inventory. This position will supervise 3 to 5 cattle units on the ranch. This person also is a key member of the management team which participates in strategic decision making for the operation.
Deseret Cattle and Citrus is a 42,000 head cow/calf operation on 300,000 acres in central Florida and is part of the cattle division
of AgReserves Inc. AgReserves is a for-profit company that operates investment farms and ranches throughout the world and is affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Master’s Degree preferred
- 5 to 10 years cattle industry experience
- Proven track record of increasing leadership responsibility
- Proven track record of financial accountability & performan ce
- Proficient using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Employee Development and Supervision
- Identify, train and mentor potential future leaders.
- Help employees understand the ranch’s key objectives.
- Ensure employees understand their roles in accomplishing these objectives.
- Provide employees with training/tools to successfully fulfill assigned responsibilities, including animal handling and welfare.
- Financial: Participate in the creation of annual operating and capital budgets. Monitor the financials, project, report and explain variances and outcomes.
- Pasture and Range Management: Work with each foreman to develop an annual 3-year resource plan. Monitor the implementation of the foreman’s annual grazing plan.
- Safety: Ensure foremen are responsible for safety and the ranch safety programs are fully implemented.
- Ranch Security: Share in responsibility for the overall ranch security.
- Coordination, Communication and Representation
- Work with other ranch departments and customers to ensure all overall ranch objectives are fulfilled.
- Be responsible for communication among departments.
- Represent ranch professionally at all times.
- Participate in industry and community organizations.
- Inventory Control: Ensure each foreman is maintaining and reconciling an accurate running inventory of assets.
- Quality Control
- Ensure proper integrity of all genetics data including parentage, and phenotypic and genomic records.
- Ensure the foremen are keeping all facilities and equipment neat, clean, and in good repair.
- Ensure employees adhere to ranch policies.
